GameShark is a cheat device used on many gaming platforms to alter many features within a game, including games in the Croc series. There are different versions of GameShark to get, which offer different features. In all versions, one can enter a string of hex characters in order to alter the game's RAM. This can cause glitches to appear in the game, both good and bad, as well as nothing happening at all. This article lists a few of the GameShark codes which can be used as cheats or just for fun!
Download an image of GameShark for use on PSX emulators here.
How It Works
Hex and the Code Itself
All GameShark codes are made using 12 hex characters (0-9 or A-F). The 12 characters are usually divided into two or three sets, either the first eight and last four, or three sets of four. The last set of four is usually the 'child' code set for the 'parent' set of the previous four characters. The 'parent' often represents the type of code, such as textures, items, sound etc., where the 'child' set may be the number of crystals for example. The first four characters in any code are usually the same for all codes.
Trying Out New Codes
With skill and practice, new codes can be discovered to create hopefully awesome glitches or new cheats which can be added to this article. There are many ways to try out codes and see what they do to the game:
- Random guessing: This method will usually make A LOT of time wasted on trying codes which the game doesn't use, achieving nothing, so it isn't recommended.
- Adapting from existing codes: By changing say the last two characters before the last four for a code changing say the crystal count, and you would expect something like a code for changing the life count for example. This is a popular method to use and is recommended for experimenters.
- Using GameShark Pro: GameShark Pro is a regular GameShark with more features to generate codes more likely to have an affect on the game.

This code will enable Croc to jump up in the air infinity when holding X. Note that falling from a certain height kills Croc, even when using invinciblity. Activate both code sets at the same time. Unfortunately the codes are restricted to individual levels, going up to the first three islands. It is possible to get codes for the rest of the levels by experimenting with the codes, if you find any, please tell us!
