Croc is a side-scrolling platform version of Croc: Legend of the Gobbos for the Game Boy Color. It was developed by Fox Interactive and published by THQ in 2000.

Plot

One fateful day, the Gobbos discover a baby crocodile floating down the river. They name him Croc, but as they have no idea about crocodile behaviour, they treat him as one of their own.

Unbeknownst to them, the magician Baron Dante is watching the Gobbos, hating them for their happiness, and scheming to punish them for it. One day, he and his Dantini followers attack, kidnapping the Gobbos and hypnotizing the other animals in the vicinity into attacking the Gobbos as well. King Rufus turns to Croc, who puts on his backpack, and takes off on a journey to save his friends.

Gameplay

The game is a sidescroller. It contains several platform levels, vehicle levels, and boss fights. The order of the levels is loosely based off the original game.

Differences from other versions

  • The music is the very similar, only sounding different due to Gameboy Color limitations.
  • Level design is very different.
  • Some aspects from the prototypes, such as Bonus letters have been kept in.
  • Levels are not named.
  • Crystal Island is completely absent from this version, even if you collect all the Jigsaw Pieces. Collecting all Jigsaw pieces instead unlocks a minigame mode in which the player can freely play the bonus minigames which appear at the end of each level.
  • Contains enemies not found in the regular version.
  • Some enemies/guardians are absent from this console versions.
  • King Rufus is known simply as 'The Gobbo King'.
